Fighting the Reddit Shadowban Waves for Direct Sellers
Reddit Shadowban Waves
The Reddit shadowban wave has not seemed to slow down. It’s to the point where everyone does need to feel very nervous. That being said, I figured I could try and throw together a few tips or concepts that could potentially help prevent it from hitting you. I cannot put any form of guarantee behind any of these, as Reddit has their algorithm and their formulas and their full stipulations behind these shadows so locked down that nobody can actually find them. But here are some tips that I am implementing, and that others have stated across the creator forums.
These more directly relate to those who are selling on the platform and who are posting ads etc within selling subreddits.
Behaviors to Avoid to prevent a Reddit Shadowban and Behaviors to do Instead:
- Posting the same content within your ad repeatedly.
- Change up your image, Gif or other content regularly.
- To help with this, RedGifs users can disguise their links. Utilize alias links to prevent posting the same link over and over again
- Change up your image, Gif or other content regularly.

- Remove off-links from your comment menu
- Off-links are any link within your comment that link to anything off site (such as your domain or linktree).
- Though I don’t know the efficacy of this yet, what I am doing instead is linking to the pinned post I have on my profile which has my menu and all of my off-links to my domain.
- Repeated posting of off site links could be seen as a content policy violation of their 9:1 rule.
- Off-links are any link within your comment that link to anything off site (such as your domain or linktree).
- Change up your comment menu often so you are not copy and pasting the exact same thing repeatedly.
- Change the structure.
- Change the wording.
- Add in different blurbs within the comment itself.
- If your scheduler is posting your ads, consider changing that.
- That repeated, predictable behavior that a scheduler displays, posting within the same sub, with similar content, is likely to be flagged by the system.
- Do not limit your posting to only one, or one type of subreddit.
- Have variety in your communities. If you are only posting in selling subs it could be caught as only using the platform for promotion, or spam.
- Do not only be posting from a scheduler. Manually post as well.
- Schedulers when posting display a level of efficiency and perfection that human posting does not. If you are only posting with a scheduler your account could be caught as a bot.
- This does not mean you cannot use one, but add in manual posts as well.
- Comment on posts that are not your own regularly and within subreddits that are not selling related.
Final Thoughts
maintaining a robust presence on and across the platform is incredibly crucial. Taking steps like the ones above to help protect your account are necessary at this point. There are so many more things that we do need to look at doing, but for those in direct sales, these could genuinely help.
